Grafana Tempo
A highly-detailed distributed tracing system that illuminates the exact execution paths and latency bottlenecks of complex AI workflows.
Grafana Tempo provides high-scale distributed tracing, forming the backbone of our Genkit AI monitoring. By ingesting execution spans directly from the OpenTelemetry Collector, Tempo allows STD.DEV to visualize the exact execution paths, latencies, and errors of every individual AI agent action in real-time.
Illuminating Complex LLM Flows
Generative AI workflows are inherently non-deterministic and multi-layered, making traditional logging insufficient for debugging. STD.DEV integrates Grafana Tempo to store highly detailed distributed traces generated by our Genkit RAG implementation. When an AI flow is invoked, Tempo securely logs the end-to-end timeline—from the initial API request, through vector database retrieval, to the final LLM text generation. Forming the critical distributed tracing nervous system of our observability stack, Tempo visualizes the exact journey of a request across the network. While Loki records what happened and Prometheus measures the consumed resources, Tempo connects frontend user actions in the Progressive Web Apps directly to the backend Genkit AI reasoning layers, empowering our team to pinpoint and resolve microsecond latency bottlenecks instantly in Grafana.
