OpenTelemetry Collector
A unified telemetry pipeline that standardizes and routes complex AI diagnostic signals across the observability stack.
The OpenTelemetry (OTel) Collector is the critical data router for STD.DEV's advanced AI diagnostics. It actively instruments our Genkit models, collecting rich telemetry on token usage, execution latency, and LLM costs, and intelligently routes those signals to Prometheus, Loki, and Tempo.
Standardized AI Telemetry
To maintain a vendor-agnostic and highly transparent monitoring stack, STD.DEV relies on the OpenTelemetry Collector to standardize incoming diagnostic signals. It is heavily utilized within our Genkit RAG pipeline, where it receives rich telemetry data detailing the inner workings of our LLM invocations. Functioning as the intelligent routing nexus within the broader observability stack, the OTel Collector centralizes the ingestion of all telemetry so that our Genkit AI agents and decoupled frontends do not have to communicate with multiple logging and tracing systems directly. STD.DEV processes these incoming signals and distributes the data: exposing high-level metrics (like token counts and USD costs) to Prometheus, forwarding structured execution logs to Loki, and pushing distributed execution spans to Tempo. This streamlined architecture guarantees highly efficient data flow and a pristine visualization experience in Grafana.
